Been Lots of Places....

Cities I Have Visited And How They Rank

Below is a listing of cities I have been to (all of them in North America). I have taken the METRO AREA AS A WHOLE when ranking them from top to bottom. For example, Detroit's city limits are just awful, but if you include the suburbs, it is a better place to be than you might think. My favorite city is Chicago because it has so much to do but it is not as crazy as New York. Also, the pizza, the architecture, the sports, and that Midwestern hospitality---all makes for a world-class city on the lake.

State Capitols

I have been to 41 states plus DC and Ontario in Canada. I am missing the six New England states, Arizona, New Mexico, and Alaska.

I collect State Capitols Buildings. I don't know how this began, but I always loved geography, and I liked to see the basis of our government. I was able to see some beautiful country on my way to some of them, and others were located in the heart of bustling urban areas. My favorite is still the gold dome of my adopted state of Georgia. I have been to 33 of the 51:

Montgomery, Alabama
Little Rock, Arkansas
Dover, Delaware
Washington, DC----National Capitol
Tallahassee, Florida
Atlanta, Georgia
Honolulu, Hawaii
Boise, Idaho
Springfield, Illinois
Indianapolis, Indiana
Des Moines, Iowa
Topeka, Kansas
Frankfort, Kentucky
Baton Rouge, Louisiana
Annapolis, Maryland
Lansing, Michigan
St. Paul, Minnesota
Jackson, Mississippi
Jefferson City, Missouri
Helena, Montana
Lincoln, Nebraska
Trenton, New Jersey
Albany, New York
Raleigh, North Carolina
Columbus, Ohio
Harrisburg, Pennsylvania
Columbia, South Carolina
Nashville, Tennessee
Austin, Texas
Salt Lake City, Utah
Richmond, Virginia
Charleston, West Virginia
Madison, Wisconsin

Ideally, I shall visit all fifty states and all seven continents in my lifetime.

Antarctica in December might be fun thanks to 24 hours of continuous sunlight. Europe interests me for the architecture, history, art, geography, and culture associated with the "Olde Worlde". Germany and Italy are tops for me and Switzerland and Spain are next. Russia could be a splendid trip as they supposedly treat Americans much better there since their dumbass communism ended. South America does not really entice me except for Brazil. Australia would be fun except for it being such a long flight to get there.

As for Asia, I would love to visit Jerusalem to see all the Biblical history in that area of the world. Sadly, Americans are rightfully terrified to visit based on Palestinian hostility towards us and our pro-Israel stance. The Pyramids of Egypt would be my only reason to visit Africa; after all, I hate snakes! =)

I have been fortunate to travel so much for a man my age. Most of this has been domestic, but I have a long list of foreign destinations. Family vacations, high school competitions, various road trips, and visiting relatives have all been great reasons to see so much of America. Eventually, I will see the world as well.
